The question we get most often: when should I go to see the Great Migration? The honest answer is that you can see it all year — it is just somewhere different every month, and what you get to see varies enormously.
January to March: calving season
In the south of the Serengeti, around Ndutu, hundreds of thousands of calves are born within a few weeks. That draws the predators in. If you want to see hunting, this is the time to come — not high season.
June to September: the river crossings
This is where the footage everyone knows comes from. The herds cross the Grumeti and later the Mara, with crocodiles waiting for them. Spectacular, but unpredictable: sometimes they hesitate on the bank for three days.
Anyone who guarantees you will see the crossing is selling you something they cannot deliver.
