Home / Who we are
That is what Ubuntu means. It is also exactly why we build trips the way we do — with respect for people, nature and culture.
Our story
Ubuntu Adventure & Events is a locally run travel and events company based in Arusha, Tanzania, founded out of a passion for adventure, culture and connection.
We organise safaris, cycling & gravel events, cultural tours and tailor-made trips that go beyond standard tourism. Our strength lies in personal guidance, local expertise and genuine experiences — from the plains of the Serengeti to meeting the Maasai and Hadzabe, and unwinding on Zanzibar.
“Ubuntu means: I am because we are.”
With experienced guides, dependable partners and an eye for detail, we make trips that run smoothly and stay with you.
Co-founder · events, routes & operations
Gerald brings years of international experience in organising sporting events and adventurous travel. Born in South Africa and raised in South Africa and the Netherlands, he has had a strong bond with the continent and a deep understanding of African culture from an early age.
With his background in running cycling events in Europe and his passion for Tanzania, he combines adventure with social impact. His aim: to create trips that connect people and strengthen local communities at the same time.
Gerald is Dutch and divides his time between the Netherlands and Tanzania.
Co-founder · culture, community & hospitality
Angel was born and raised in Tanzania and comes from the Datoga people, which gives her a rare and deep understanding of Tanzania’s many tribes and traditions.
Thanks to her own background and years of working with local communities, Angel offers guests genuine cultural encounters that go well beyond standard tourism. She is the local heart of Ubuntu Adventure & Events and makes sure every trip is rooted in respect, connection and honesty.
What we stand for
No village is a backdrop. We come by invitation, we pay fairly and we always ask before taking photographs.
Small groups, no off-road driving away from the tracks, and camps that genuinely remove their waste. What we bring in, we take back out.
Our guides, drivers and cooks are on the payroll, insured and trained. No hiring in by the trip.
Our own vehicles, maintained in our own workshop, reachable 24/7 and a contingency plan for every route. All you have to do is enjoy it.
The team in Arusha
Behind every trip is a team that has worked together for years. You will meet all of them — some of them already in the arrivals hall.

They cook three-course meals over a wood fire, in the middle of the Serengeti. The most underrated reason people come back.
